choose-model

choose-model is a command for Claude Code from fabioc-aloha/Alex_Skill_Mall. It costs 31 tokens per session (202 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A model-selection command compares available AI models and providers, then creates a plan for carrying out a task. It stops before any paid work runs.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for comparing models, recording unknowns, preparing an executable provider plan, and identifying any required secret setup.
Why use it?
It helps choose a suitable provider using current evidence while keeping the actual task execution separate.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00031 $0.00202
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.00101
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00040
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00020

Security

Grade A, and why

choose-model scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

/alex-act-ai-operations choose-model

Use model-router to create an evidence-backed provider plan.

Steps:

  1. Load the model-router skill and provider contract.
  2. Capture the task, deliverables, and hard constraints.
  3. Query relevant live provider tools.
  4. Compare feasible candidates and record unknown evidence.
  5. If the selected model needs a credential, emit a Secret setup section with the exact variable name and .env path; never request or print its value.
  6. Emit a schema-valid JSON plan and plain-language consent summary.
  7. Stop before provider execution.

Would revise by 2026-11-11 if users cannot discover the advisory workflow or if it invokes provider execution before handing off.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
