What is test-macos-app?

A command for running macOS tests in either an Xcode project or a Swift package. It starts with the smallest relevant test group and explains the kind of failure found.

Use it to run a selected scheme, target, or test filter, classify the result, and identify the narrowest sensible next step.

It avoids wasting time on a full test suite when a focused run can show whether the issue is compilation, a failed check, a crash, setup, or flaky timing.

Workflow

Detect whether the repo uses xcodebuild test or swift test.
Prefer focused test execution when a target or filter is provided.
Classify failures as compile, assertion, crash, env/setup, or flake.
Summarize the top blocker and the narrowest sensible next step.

Guardrails

Avoid rerunning the full suite if a focused rerun is possible.
Distinguish build failures from actual failing tests.
Note when host app setup or simulator-only test assumptions leak into a macOS run.
