easy-code-reader: Command for GitHub Copilot

.github/prompts/easy-code-reader-rule.prompt.md

easy-code-reader-rule is a command for GitHub Copilot from FangYuan33/easy-code-reader. It costs 0 tokens per session (764 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Command rules for reading Java source from a local Maven repository. Maven is a Java dependency system; these commands find an artifact's group and version, then read a class from the chosen JAR file.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use search_group_id to find candidate Maven coordinates and read_jar_source to inspect a fully qualified Java class. You can request the full source or an inclusive line range.
Why use it?
They prevent an agent from choosing a dependency version based only on the first search result. They also provide bounded source reads so large files do not need to be returned at once.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00764
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00306
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00153
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00076

Security

Grade A, and why

easy-code-reader-rule scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Easy Code Reader Usage Rules

Use these two tools for Java source in a local Maven repository:

  1. search_group_id: find candidate Maven groupIds and versions from a known artifact ID.
  2. read_jar_source: read a fully qualified class from an explicit Maven coordinate.

Supply artifact_id without the version. If known, provide a complete group_prefix, such as org.springframework; it matches group segments from the beginning, case-insensitively. version_hint is an optional version substring. Omit uncertain filters. Every search reads the current repository directly, so newly installed or removed dependencies appear on the next call.

Choose the intended groupId and version from matches. Numeric version segments follow Maven ordering; do not infer the desired application version solely from the first result.

Read

{
  "group_id": "org.springframework",
  "artifact_id": "spring-core",
  "version": "5.3.21",
  "class_name": "org.springframework.core.SpringVersion"
}

Omitted line bounds return the complete source. To reduce subsequent output, pass start_line and/or end_line; lines are 1-based and both bounds are inclusive. For an explicit range, inspect total_lines and is_partial before treating a snippet as the whole implementation. Those fields are omitted for full reads.

Internal classes use binary names, such as org.example.Outer$Inner. The tool may return the outer file with a short warning. Full reads otherwise return only class_name, artifact, source_type and code.

Sources are preferred unless prefer_sources=false. SNAPSHOTs prefer the ordinary main JAR for reading and the latest timestamped main JAR name for caching, with numeric build-number ordering. If the ordinary main JAR is absent, read the timestamped JAR. Ordinary main JARs prefer ordinary sources, then matching timestamped sources; timestamped main JARs use matching sources. The actual path and resolved version are kept in internal diagnostics rather than repeated in every response.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

easy-code-reader-rule is a command published in the GitHub repository FangYuan33/easy-code-reader (154 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 764 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-18.
