In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for README files, technical documentation, blog posts, release notes, and other Markdown content. It supports English, German, French, and Spanish output examples, and requires an ANTHROPIC_API_KEY.
Why use it?
It avoids manually translating documentation and then repairing code blocks, links, headings, and lists. It also creates a separate translated file so the original remains available.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00401
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00200
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00080
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00040

Security

Grade A, and why

ai-translate scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Markdown file translation. Technical/content translation via the Claude API (without breaking markdown structure).

Required Tools

  • Bash (badi ai translate)

Prerequisite

ANTHROPIC_API_KEY required.

Procedure

Step 1: Source File

A markdown file path (example: docs/guide.md, blog/post-tr.md).

Step 2: Translate

badi ai translate [file.md] # Default EN
badi ai translate [file.md] --to en # English
badi ai translate [file.md] --to de # German
badi ai translate [file.md] --to fr # French
badi ai translate [file.md] --to es # Spanish

Step 3: Output

A new file next to the source with a -[lang] suffix:

  • guide.md -> guide-en.md

Step 4: Use Cases

  • Content marketing: TR post -> EN, EN post -> TR
  • Technical docs: README.md -> README-en.md
  • App Store: release-notes-tr.md -> release-notes-en.md
  • Blog: multi-language support

Step 5: Markdown Preservation

The AI preserves:

  • Code blocks (...)
  • Link structure
  • Heading hierarchy (##, ###)
  • List formatting
  • Hashtags (localized)

Step 6: Relationship to the Content Engine

The content engine (badi content ...) produces English-only output (v1.32+). To publish in another language, generate first and then translate the file with ai translate.

Cost

  • ~5K chars of content: ~$0.003-0.005 per translation

Example

/ai-translate blog/post-tr.md --to en
/ai-translate docs/guide.md --to de
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

ai-translate is a command published in the GitHub repository fatihkan/badi (7 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 401 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
