widescreen-research: Command for Claude Code

.claude/commands/research/autonomous-discovery-loop.md

autonomous-discovery-loop is a command for Claude Code from glassBead-tc/widescreen-research. It costs 0 tokens per session (4,966 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A command for exploring a research question by generating, testing, and refining possible explanations in repeated rounds. It records the question, evidence, and results in a state file.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to examine a scientific or technical question, compare multiple hypotheses, collect supporting evidence, and stop when enough hypotheses have been validated.
Why use it?
It gives an investigation a repeatable structure and checks each stage before continuing. This helps prevent ideas from being accepted without evidence.

Command for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: $ARGUMENTS substitution. Also seen: reads .claude/ paths; positional $N argument.

This is glassBead-tc/widescreen-research's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on widescreen-research itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything widescreen-research configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.04966
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.02483
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00993
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00497

Security

Grade A, and why

autonomous-discovery-loop scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Autonomous Discovery Loop

Pattern: Systematic hypothesis exploration with iterative refinement Based on: "Agentic Science" framework (arXiv:2508.14111) Determinism: High - Each phase has programmatic validation gates

Usage

/autonomous-discovery-loop "Research question or domain"

Arguments:

  • $ARGUMENTS (required): Research question or domain to explore
  • max_iterations (optional): Maximum discovery loops (default: 5)
  • hypothesis_breadth (optional): Number of hypotheses per iteration (default: 10)
  • convergence_threshold (optional): Stop when X% of hypotheses validated (default: 0.80)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

autonomous-discovery-loop is a command published in the GitHub repository glassBead-tc/widescreen-research (6 stars, last pushed 10mo ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 4,966 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
