Getting it into your agent
This one installs as part of its plugin. Adding the marketplace and installing the plugin brings it with everything else the plugin ships.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00017 | $0.00564 |
| Opus 5 | $0.00009 | $0.00282 |
| Sonnet 5 | $0.00003 | $0.00113 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00002 | $0.00056 |
Grade A, and why
news-add scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Not a fault in itself. Listed so you know the mod talks to something, and to what.
curl -sL --max-time 10 -- '<url>' 2>/dev/null | head -5 What it actually says
You are adding a news source to the user's herald config.
Preflight
- Find the herald data directory:
Checkcd "${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}" && PYTHONPATH=. python3 -c "from herald.cli import _default_data_dir; print(_default_data_dir())"config.yamlexists there (defaults to~/.local/share/herald/; use--data-dirorHERALD_DATA_DIRto override). If not: "Run/news-initfirst." - Read config.
Determine input type
Parse the user's input after /news-add:
- If it looks like a URL (starts with http/https): → URL flow
- If no argument: ask "Paste an RSS/Atom feed URL"
URL Flow — RSS Feed
-
Validate feed: Fetch the URL and check it returns valid XML/RSS. Construct the command using the URL as a separate argument to avoid shell injection:
curl -sL --max-time 10 -- '<url>' 2>/dev/null | head -5Replace
<url>with the literal URL value using single quotes. If the URL contains a single quote, abort and ask the user to provide a valid URL. Look for<?xml,<rss,<feed,<atommarkers. -
If valid feed: Suggest a source entry:
- id: derive from domain (e.g.,
simonwfromsimonwillison.net) - name: derive from domain or feed title
- weight: 0.2 (default)
- category: community (default) Ask user to confirm or customize.
- id: derive from domain (e.g.,
-
If not valid: Try RSS autodiscovery:
- Platform heuristics: github.com →
/releases.atom, substack →/feed - Common paths:
/feed,/rss,/atom.xml,/feed.xmlIf found, confirm with user. If not: "Could not find RSS feed."
- Platform heuristics: github.com →
-
Add to config: Read
config.yamlfrom the herald data directory (step 1), append tosourceslist via Edit tool. -
Confirm: "Added . Run
/news-runto fetch articles."
Config rules
- Only edit the
config.yamlin the herald data directory (see Preflight) - Use Edit tool, not full rewrite
- Check for duplicate URLs or ids before adding
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

news-add is a command published in the GitHub repository heurema/herald (4 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 17 tokens to every session and 564 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
