backlog

backlog is a command for Claude Code from infraspecdev/tesseract. It costs 23 tokens per session (939 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A command for keeping a lightweight project backlog in a JSON file. A backlog is a list of ideas, tasks, or future work that has not yet been completed.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to add ideas, view ordered entries, move work into planning stages, remove completed items, and reconcile the backlog.
Why use it?
It gives a project one place to capture, review, promote, and remove pending work.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00023 $0.00939
Opus 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00376
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00005 $0.00188
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00094

Security

Grade A, and why

backlog scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Backlog

Lightweight idea-capture for Shield projects. Entries live in a single global docs/shield/backlog.json. Each entry is associated with a feature (the reconciliation key) and an epic (the removal gate); either may be proposed-new at capture.

Usage

/backlog # render the ordered backlog with status badges (alias of view)
/backlog view # explicit view
/backlog add "Rotate refresh tokens" \
            --feature auth --epic "Session mgmt"
/backlog remove <id>
/backlog promote <id> [--step plan|implement|prd|research]
/backlog sweep # run lazy reconciliation without rendering

Paths

Artifact Path
Store docs/shield/backlog.json
Removal log (recovery) .shield/backlog-removed.log
Kill switch .shield.json → backlog.auto_reconcile (default true)

Behavior

  1. view — Read docs/shield/backlog.json; render entries sorted by order. Each line shows id, feature, epic, source, text. Pipeline status badges (research / prd / plan) are derived from docs/shield/manifest.json artifact flags at view time. Empty backlog renders Backlog is empty — no entries. The view path optionally runs a lazy reconciliation sweep before rendering (controlled by .shield.json kill switch).

  2. add — Append an entry via shield_backlog.store.capture(). The helper assigns a fresh uuid4 id and the next integer order. Writes are atomic (temp-then-rename) with compare-before-replace; a concurrent on-disk change between read and replace is refused with BacklogInvalid(lost_update). If no --feature/--epic matches the suggester output, the user may accept a proposed-new value at the prompt.

  3. remove — Delete an entry by id. Plain delete, no retained history. A missing id reports id_not_found (exit 1). Recoverability boundary: git revert recovers only entries that reached a commit; a manual remove of an uncommitted entry is unrecoverable by design.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

backlog is a command published in the GitHub repository infraspecdev/tesseract (5 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 23 tokens to every session and 939 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
