What is export-session?

A command that saves the current Claude Code session as a portable folder, including its transcript, file snapshots, and related project settings.

Use it to export a session with an automatic or custom name, create a human-readable Markdown copy, and prepare the session for later import.

It keeps a complete record of an agent session for backup, review, or sharing. The exported folder can be committed to Git or moved to another machine.

Usage

/export-session [name]

Where [name] is an optional export name (defaults to session slug).

What This Does

Finds the current session in ~/.claude/projects/<normalized-path>/
Creates .claude-sessions/<name>/ with:
- session/main.jsonl - The full session transcript
- session/file-history/ - File snapshots from the session
- config/ - Commands, skills, hooks, agents, rules
- .cctrace-manifest.json - Metadata for import
- RENDERED.md - Human-readable session for GitHub
- Legacy files for backwards compatibility

The export will be in .claude-sessions/<name>/. You can:

Commit and push to share via GitHub
Copy to another machine
Import with /import-session

Run the export tool:
