instinct-export is a command for Claude Code from joneqian/claude-skills-suite. It costs 13 tokens per session (580 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of instinct-export, MIT.

A command that exports learned instincts—notes about repeated coding preferences or actions—to a shareable YAML file, a text format for structured data.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to export all instincts or filter them by domain and confidence, then save the result to a chosen file.
Why use it?
It makes selected instincts easier to share with teammates, move to another machine, or use in another project while removing specified private details.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00013 $0.00580
Opus 5 $0.00006 $0.00290
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00116
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00058

Security

Grade A, and why

instinct-export scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Instinct Export Command

Exports instincts to a shareable format. Perfect for:

  • Sharing with teammates
  • Transferring to a new machine
  • Contributing to project conventions

Usage

/instinct-export # Export all personal instincts
/instinct-export --domain testing # Export only testing instincts
/instinct-export --min-confidence 0.7 # Only export high-confidence instincts
/instinct-export --output team-instincts.yaml

What to Do

  1. Read instincts from ~/.claude/homunculus/instincts/personal/
  2. Filter based on flags
  3. Strip sensitive information:
    • Remove session IDs
    • Remove file paths (keep only patterns)
    • Remove timestamps older than "last week"
  4. Generate export file

Output Format

Creates a YAML file:

# Instincts Export
# Generated: 2025-01-22
# Source: personal
# Count: 12 instincts

version: "2.0"
exported_by: "continuous-learning-v2"
export_date: "2025-01-22T10:30:00Z"

instincts:
  - id: prefer-functional-style
    trigger: "when writing new functions"
action: "Use functional patterns over classes"
    confidence: 0.8
    domain: code-style
    observations: 8

  - id: test-first-workflow
    trigger: "when adding new functionality"
action: "Write test first, then implementation"
    confidence: 0.9
    domain: testing
    observations: 12

  - id: grep-before-edit
    trigger: "when modifying code"
action: "Search with Grep, confirm with Read, then Edit"
    confidence: 0.7
    domain: workflow
    observations: 6

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
