Goal
Turn one or more ClickUp references into a high-quality spec.md that is ready for /spec-kitty.plan.
Accepted input

If no argument is provided, ask the user for a ClickUp reference and stop.
Workflow
1) Preflight checks
- Ensure the command runs from a project root where
kitty-specs/is expected. - Ensure
spec-kittyCLI is installed:
spec-kitty --version
If missing, stop and provide:
pip install spec-kitty-cli
2) Parse and normalize ClickUp references
Normalize IDs before MCP calls:
- Strip
CU-/cu- - Strip leading
# - Extract IDs from task URLs
- Detect list references from
list:prefix or list URL patterns
Deduplicate all resolved IDs.
3) Fetch ClickUp context via MCP
- For each task ID, call
clickup_get_task. - For each list reference, use available list MCP tools (for example
clickup_get_list) to resolve task IDs, then hydrate each task withclickup_get_task. - Build a concise context bundle containing:
- task name
- status
- priority
- description
- acceptance/checklist items
- subtasks (if present)
- useful comments (if available)
If list lookup tools are unavailable, ask the user for explicit task IDs and continue.
4) Discovery interview (scope-proportional)
Before writing files, run a short interview:
- Trivial scope: 1-2 questions
- Medium scope: 3-4 questions
- Complex scope: 5+ questions
Cover at least:
- scope boundaries (what is in/out)
- target users and expected outcomes
- constraints and dependencies
- success signals
Then present a short intent summary and confirm with the user.
