odyssey: Command for Claude Code

.claude/commands/onboard.md

onboard is a command for Claude Code from KhourySpecialProjects/odyssey. It costs 0 tokens per session (2,403 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A first-time setup command for contributors who have cloned a repository. It automates setup steps, skips work already done, and collects tasks that require a person, such as browser sign-ins or shared secrets.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps prepare a local development environment, check which services and credentials are configured, and list actions such as OAuth approval or obtaining secret values.
Why use it?
New contributors often miss setup steps or get blocked by tasks an automated tool cannot complete. It gives them one checklist of remaining manual work and can be run again safely.

Command for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: disable-model-invocation in frontmatter. Also seen: reads .claude/ paths.

This is KhourySpecialProjects/odyssey's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on odyssey itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything odyssey configures →

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is bash scripts/ci-local.sh quick.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.02403
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00961
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00481
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00240

Security

Grade A, and why

onboard scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 253 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Onboard a New Contributor

First-time setup for a contributor who has just cloned this repo. Automate everything that can be automated; collect a punch list of the few things only the human can do (OAuth clicks, secrets from a teammate).

This command is idempotent — running it again should detect what is already set up, skip it, and only act on the remaining gaps.

Opening message to the user

Before running anything, tell the contributor:

I'll run through the Odyssey setup automatically. A few things I cannot do for you — I'll collect them and present them as a checklist at the end:

  • OAuth for the Linear MCP server (browser prompt)
  • OAuth for the Figma MCP server (via /mcp)
  • Any secret env values only a teammate can share (e.g. STRAPI_ACCESS_TOKEN, Azure AD / GitHub OAuth client credentials)

Hit enter to continue, or tell me to stop.

Wait for acknowledgement before proceeding.

Steps (run in order)

For each step below: capture stdout+stderr, report ✓ / ✗ / ⤳ skipped, and record any manual follow-up in a running MANUAL: list to present at the end. Do not stop on first failure — continue so the contributor gets the full picture in one pass.

1. Preflight — verify required tooling

Check each of these is on PATH. If missing, record as MANUAL and keep going — don't try to install system tooling:

command -v node && node --version
command -v npm && npm --version
command -v docker && docker --version
command -v jq && jq --version
command -v claude && claude --version

Minimum versions expected: Node 20+, npm 10+, Docker 24+. If Node is older, record MANUAL: "upgrade Node to 20+".

2. Install dependencies

Idempotent: if node_modules exists at a given path, skip that install and report ⤳. Otherwise run:

npm run setup

That script runs npm install at root, frontend/, and backend/. If it fails partway, report which sub-install failed and stop this step (but continue to later steps).

3. Create .env files from templates

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

onboard is a command published in the GitHub repository KhourySpecialProjects/odyssey (7 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 2,403 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-02.
