Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00020 $0.00429
Opus 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00172
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00086
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00043

Security

Grade A, and why

research scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Forward the user's research question to Grok in deep-research mode and return the answer verbatim.

This command exists to exploit Grok's distinctive strengths:

  • Live web search is on by default (pass --no-web-search to turn it off).
  • web_fetch is on by default (v1.2.0) — Grok can fetch a specific URL, not just search (pass --no-web-fetch to turn it off).
  • --effort max is requested by default but only applies on models that support reasoning effort; the current default grok-build does not, so it is stripped with a warning. (No action needed — web search + --check do the heavy lifting.)
  • --check is on by default — Grok appends a self-verification loop to its own answer (pass --no-check to turn it off).
  • --stream (v1.2.0) streams the answer live as Grok produces it (uses --output-format streaming-json) — useful for long runs where you'd otherwise wait minutes for the buffered result.

Raw user input: $ARGUMENTS

Run:

node "${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/companion.mjs" research "$ARGUMENTS"

Output rules:

  • Return the companion's stdout verbatim. Do not paraphrase or summarize.
  • If stderr contains a [hint: ...] line about auth, also surface that hint and suggest /grok:setup.
  • If $ARGUMENTS is empty, ask the user what they want Grok to research instead of running the command.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

research is a command published in the GitHub repository LovelaceLoom/grok-plugin-cc (5 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 20 tokens to every session and 429 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
