setup

A setup command for checking whether the local Gemini command-line tool is available to Claude Code and whether its review gate is configured.

In plain words
What is it for?
Checking Gemini readiness and, when requested, installing the Gemini command-line tool.
Why use it?
It identifies missing installation or sign-in requirements before Gemini is used and gives the user the relevant setup guidance.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Per session 16 Only the description is in the session, so the agent can decide to use it. The body loads when it is invoked.
When invoked 327 The whole file, excluding the scripts and references it only reads on demand.
Security scan B 1 finding. Scan, not verified.
Origin original No closer match found in the catalogue.
Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00016 $0.00327
Opus 5 $0.00008 $0.00163
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00065
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00033

Measured 2d ago against content hash 8a3e4cc5bdc4, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade B, and why

setup scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

- If Gemini is installed but not authenticated, preserve the guidance to configure auth in `~/.gemini/settings.json` or run `gemini auth` in a terminal outside Claude Code. Do not suggest running auth commands via Claude

What it actually says

Run:

node "${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/gemini-companion.mjs" setup --json $ARGUMENTS

If the result says Gemini is unavailable and npm is available:

  • Use AskUserQuestion exactly once to ask whether Claude should install Gemini CLI now.
  • Put the install option first and suffix it with (Recommended).
  • Use these two options:
    • Install Gemini CLI (Recommended)
    • Skip for now
  • If the user chooses install, run:
npm install -g @google/[email protected]
  • Then rerun:
node "${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/gemini-companion.mjs" setup --json $ARGUMENTS

If Gemini is already installed or npm is unavailable:

  • Do not ask about installation.

Output rules:

  • Present the final setup output to the user.
  • If installation was skipped, present the original setup output.
  • If Gemini is installed but not authenticated, preserve the guidance to configure auth in ~/.gemini/settings.json or run gemini auth in a terminal outside Claude Code. Do not suggest running auth commands via Claude's ! prefix — the auth flow is interactive and requires a browser.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

setup is a command published in the GitHub repository m-ghalib/gemini-plugin-cc (19 stars, last pushed 4mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 16 tokens to every session and 327 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (reads agent configuration directories). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
