ethics

ethics is a command for Claude Code from Marazii/research-co-pilot. It costs 20 tokens per session (321 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An ethics review of a research protocol using the perspective of an institutional review board or similar committee. It examines consent, risks, privacy, recruitment, compensation, conflicts of interest, and other safeguards.

In plain words
What is it for?
Stress-testing research plans across jurisdictions, including studies involving online data, AI, children, biometrics, genetics, or deception.
Why use it?
It helps reveal ethical problems and required changes before a study begins or is submitted for approval.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00020 $0.00321
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00161
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00064
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00032

Measured 6d ago against content hash 46887e3cd9ec, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ethics scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Invoke the ethics-committee skill from the research-co-pilot plugin and execute its full workflow.

The skill file is at skills/ethics-committee/SKILL.md relative to this plugin. Read it and follow it precisely — including:

  • Phase 1: Intake (study summary, population, methods, data, jurisdiction, stage).
  • Phase 2: Apply foundational principles (Belmont + GDPR-era extensions).
  • Phase 3: Issue-by-issue checklist (consent, vulnerable populations, deception, risks, compensation, data, recruitment, COI, dissemination).
  • Phase 4: Modern / digital issues (online & social media, AI/LLM, mobile/biometric, children online, genetic, dual use).
  • Phase 5: Jurisdiction-specific notes (US, EU, UK, Canada, Australia, international).
  • Phase 6: Optional committee-panel mode (3 reviewer voices + chair's summary).
  • Phase 7: Decision letter output with required revisions, recommended changes, and disclaimer.

If the user asks for an ethics statement for a paper/grant rather than a full review, produce that format instead.

User input: $ARGUMENTS

If no protocol or summary was given, ask for the study summary, target population, methods, data plan, and which ethics framework / jurisdiction applies.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

ethics is a command published in the GitHub repository Marazii/research-co-pilot (13 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 20 tokens to every session and 321 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
