arxiv-search

arxiv-search is a command for coding agents from minihellboy/notebooklm-papers-plugin. It costs 13 tokens per session (552 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A search command for arXiv, a public website where researchers share scientific papers, including work that may not yet be formally published. It finds papers by topic, author, or research category and can optionally send the top results to NotebookLM for processing.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to find papers in areas such as machine learning, language technology, artificial intelligence, and computer vision. It returns titles, authors, paper IDs, summaries, dates, and categories.
Why use it?
It avoids manually searching arXiv and collecting paper details one by one. Filters help narrow results by date, category, author, relevance, or publication date.

When invoked 552 The whole file, excluding the scripts and references it only reads on demand.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00013 $0.00552
Opus 5 $0.00006 $0.00276
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00110
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00055

Measured 4d ago against content hash 369cb8fd097c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

arxiv-search scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Search arXiv for papers by query, author, or category, with option to process results.

Arguments

Parse from: $ARGUMENTS

  • QUERY: Search query (required)

Options:

  • --author "NAME": Filter by author name
  • --category CAT: Filter by arXiv category (e.g., cs.LG, cs.CL, cs.AI)
  • --max N: Maximum results to return (default: 10)
  • --sort relevance|date: Sort order (default: relevance)
  • --process N: Automatically process top N papers with NotebookLM
  • --days N: Only papers from last N days

Categories Reference

Common ML/AI categories:

  • cs.LG - Machine Learning
  • cs.CL - Computation and Language (NLP)
  • cs.AI - Artificial Intelligence
  • cs.CV - Computer Vision
  • cs.NE - Neural and Evolutionary Computing
  • stat.ML - Machine Learning (Statistics)

Workflow

  1. Construct arXiv search URL with parameters
  2. Navigate to arXiv or use API
  3. Extract search results:
    • Title
    • Authors
    • arXiv ID
    • Abstract
    • Submission date
    • Categories
  4. Display formatted results
  5. If --process specified, create NotebookLM notebooks for top papers

Example Usage

/notebooklm-papers:arxiv-search "transformer architecture"
/notebooklm-papers:arxiv-search "large language models" --category cs.CL --max 20
/notebooklm-papers:arxiv-search "reinforcement learning" --days 7 --process 3
/notebooklm-papers:arxiv-search --author "Yann LeCun" --max 5

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

arxiv-search is a command published in the GitHub repository minihellboy/notebooklm-papers-plugin (2 stars, last pushed 7mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 13 tokens to every session and 552 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
