gsd-spike

gsd-spike is a command for Claude Code from mrmyothet/zach-hair-studio. It costs 23 tokens per session (570 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for exploring an idea by building a small experimental version, or for choosing the next experiment from existing ones. An experiment, or spike, is a short investigation used to learn before committing to a full build.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to explore an idea, propose a useful next experiment, quickly build a known experiment, or package its findings for later work.
Why use it?
It helps test uncertain ideas and record what was learned before turning them into regular project work.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00023 $0.00570
Opus 5 $0.00012 $0.00285
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00114
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00057

Security

Grade A, and why

gsd-spike scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Two modes:

  • Idea mode (default) — describe an idea to spike
  • Frontier mode (no argument or "frontier") — analyzes existing spike landscape and proposes integration and frontier spikes

Does not require prior new-project setup — auto-creates .planning/spikes/ if needed.

<runtime_note> Copilot (VS Code): Use vscode_askquestions wherever this workflow calls AskUserQuestion. </runtime_note>

Available flags:

  • --quick — Skip decomposition/alignment, jump straight to building. Use when you already know what to spike.
  • --text — Use plain-text numbered lists instead of AskUserQuestion (for non-Claude runtimes).
  • --wrap-up — Package spike findings into a persistent project skill for future build conversations. Runs the spike-wrap-up workflow.

Preserve all workflow gates (prior spike check, decomposition, research, risk ordering, observability assessment, verification, MANIFEST updates, commit patterns).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
