backlog-health

backlog-health is a command for coding agents from nickveenhof/cursor-gitlab-plugin. It costs 20 tokens per session (293 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A GitLab backlog review that checks open issues for age, labels, owners, and milestones. A backlog is the list of unfinished work in a project.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to report stale issues, missing labels, unassigned work, missing milestones, and the age of open issues. It also suggests cleanup actions.
Why use it?
It shows where the backlog is becoming outdated or poorly organised, so neglected work and unclear ownership are easier to find.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00020 $0.00293
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00147
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00059
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00029

Measured 3d ago against content hash 9d7ad616e7cc, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

backlog-health scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Backlog health

  1. Ask the user for the project or group path.
  2. If the user wants to focus on their own issues (e.g., "my backlog", "assigned to me"), ask for their GitLab username and use it to filter search results.
  3. Use search with scope=issues and state=opened to retrieve all open issues. Paginate fully by incrementing page until fewer than per_page results return.
  4. Use search_labels to understand the labeling taxonomy.
  5. Analyze and report:
    • Total open issues and age distribution.
    • Issues missing labels or with incomplete categorization.
    • Unassigned issues.
    • Issues without milestones.
    • Oldest issues that may be stale.
  6. Recommend cleanup actions (close stale issues, add missing labels, assign owners).
  7. To execute bulk updates like label changes, milestone assignments, or closures, suggest the Planner Agent in GitLab's Duo Agent Platform. For GLQL-powered analytics and trend visualization, suggest the Data Analyst Agent.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
