hydrate

hydrate is a command for Claude Code from noizu-labs-ml/NoizuPromptLingo. It costs 37 tokens per session (2,379 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A project command that copies predefined agent descriptions into a project's `.claude/agents/` folder and fills them with project-specific details such as test commands, paths, and architecture.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to install groups of task, planning, research, writing, analysis, infrastructure, or test-driven development agents. TDD means writing tests as part of the development process.
Why use it?
It removes the manual work of setting up reusable coding agents and adapting them to the current repository.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00037 $0.02379
Opus 5 $0.00018 $0.01189
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00476
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00238

Security

Grade A, and why

hydrate scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Hydrate Agents

Copy skeleton NPL agent definitions into this project and customize them with project-specific context.

The user specifies which agents to hydrate. Accepts:

  • Agent names: npl-tdd-coder npl-tasker npl-gopher-scout
  • Groups: tdd (coder + tester + debugger), taskers (all tasker variants), pm (idea-to-spec + prd-editor + prd-manager), core (tdd + pm + tasker + gopher-scout + winnower)
  • all: every available skeleton agent
  • No argument: prompt the user with available agents and groups

Phase 1: Resolve Source and Target

Source Location

Find the NPL skeleton agents in order of precedence:

  1. $NPL_HOME/.claude/agents/ — explicit env var
  2. Scan for the NoizuPromptLingo repo:
    • $NPL_PROJECT repo path if it contains .claude/agents/npl-tasker.md
    • ~/Github/ai/NoizuPromptLingo/.claude/agents/
    • ~/.npl/agents/ (installed agent cache)
  3. If no source found, stop and tell the user to set $NPL_HOME or install agents to ~/.npl/agents/.

Target Location

  • .claude/agents/ in the current working directory
  • Create it if it doesn't exist: mkdir -p .claude/agents

Conflict Check

For each agent to copy:

  • If .claude/agents/<name>.md already exists, note it as existing
  • Ask the user: overwrite all, skip existing, or pick individually
  • Default: skip existing (preserve project customizations)

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

hydrate is a command published in the GitHub repository noizu-labs-ml/NoizuPromptLingo (13 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 37 tokens to every session and 2,379 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-04.
