Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00000 | $0.00887 |
| Opus 5 | $0.00000 | $0.00443 |
| Sonnet 5 | $0.00000 | $0.00177 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00000 | $0.00089 |
Grade A, and why
npl-update-faq-docs scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 92 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
PROJ-FAQ.md — Maintenance Guide
Purpose
docs/PROJ-FAQ.md holds anticipated questions and honest answers — the why/when/compared-to-what questions a user forms before or while adopting the component. HOWTO covers how; FAQ covers why would I, when shouldn't I, and what's the catch.
Structure
docs/
├── PROJ-FAQ.md # All Q&A (keep small)
├── PROJ-FAQ.summary.md # Companion: questions only
└── faq/
└── {topic}.md # Extracted deep answers (rare)
Question Categories
Cover each category that applies; skip empty ones:
| Category | Archetype |
|---|---|
| Motivation | "Why would I want to use X instead of what I do now?" (e.g. why store direnv-like data in persistent encrypted files instead of plain environment variables?) |
| Fit | "When is this the right/wrong tool?" |
| Comparison | "How does this differ from Y?" (internal siblings count) |
| Capability | "Can it do X?" — for surprising yes/no answers only |
| Caveats | "What are the limits, costs, security implications?" |
| Trust | "What happens to my data / secrets / history?" |
Answer Format
### Why would I [question in the user's words]?
[Direct answer in the FIRST sentence. 2-8 more sentences of support:
the concrete benefit, the honest trade-off, when the answer flips.]
→ *See [PROJ-HOWTO.md](PROJ-HOWTO.md#how-to-...) to do it.*
Rules
- Answer first, justify second — no answer may open with background
- Honest caveats are mandatory — an FAQ that only sells is marketing, not documentation; include the "when NOT to" half
- Anticipate, don't transcribe: write the questions a skeptical adopter would ask, including ones with uncomfortable answers
- One question, one concern — split compound questions
- Link depth to HOWTO (procedures) and PROJ-ARCH (design rationale) rather than inlining either
Size Limits
| Location | Target Size | Action When Exceeded |
|---|---|---|
| PROJ-FAQ.md | < 200 lines | Extract topic clusters to faq/ |
| Single answer | < 12 lines | Extract to faq/{topic}.md, keep 2-line answer + link |
| faq/*.md files | < 100 lines | Split by narrower topic |
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

npl-update-faq-docs is a command published in the GitHub repository noizu-labs-ml/NoizuPromptLingo (13 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 887 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-04.
