trigger-periodic

trigger-periodic is a command for coding agents from openshift-eng/ai-helpers. It costs 11 tokens per session (1,900 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A command for manually starting a scheduled Gangway CI job. A periodic job normally runs on a schedule, but this command also accepts optional environment-variable overrides for the run.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it with a job name and optional KEY=value settings to trigger the job through the Gangway API.
Why use it?
It lets developers run a scheduled job immediately for testing or when an urgent check is needed, without changing the schedule.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00011 $0.01900
Opus 5 $0.00005 $0.00950
Sonnet 5 $0.00002 $0.00380
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00190

Security

Grade A, and why

trigger-periodic scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Not a fault in itself. Listed so you know the mod talks to something, and to what.

It then constructs and executes the appropriate curl command to trigger the job via the gangway REST API.

Name

ci:trigger-periodic

Synopsis

/trigger-periodic <job-name> [ENV_VAR=value ...]

Description

The trigger-periodic command triggers a periodic gangway job via the REST API. Periodic jobs run on a schedule but can be manually triggered for testing or urgent runs.

The command accepts:

  • Job name (required, first argument)
  • Environment variable overrides (optional, additional arguments in KEY=VALUE format)

It then constructs and executes the appropriate curl command to trigger the job via the gangway REST API.

Security

IMPORTANT SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:

Claude is granted LIMITED and SPECIFIC access to the app.ci cluster token for the following AUTHORIZED operations ONLY:

  • READ operations: Checking authentication status (oc whoami)
  • TRIGGERING jobs: POST requests to the gangway API to trigger jobs

Claude is EXPLICITLY PROHIBITED from:

  • Modifying cluster resources (deployments, pods, services, etc.)
  • Deleting or altering existing jobs or executions
  • Accessing secrets, configmaps, or sensitive data
  • Making any cluster modifications beyond job triggering
  • Using the token for any purpose other than the specific operations listed above

MANDATORY USER CONFIRMATION: Before executing ANY POST operation (job trigger), Claude MUST:

  1. Display the complete payload that will be sent
  2. Show the exact curl command that will be executed
  3. Request explicit user confirmation with a clear "yes/no" prompt
  4. Only proceed after receiving affirmative confirmation

Token Usage: The app.ci cluster token is used solely for authentication with the gangway REST API. This token grants the same permissions as the authenticated user and must be handled with appropriate care. The curl_with_token.sh wrapper handles all authentication automatically.

Implementation

The command performs the following steps:

  1. Parse Arguments:
    • First argument is the job name (required)
    • Remaining arguments are environment variable overrides in KEY=VALUE format
    • Note: Variables that need to override multistage parameters should be prefixed with MULTISTAGE_PARAM_OVERRIDE_

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
