write-changelog

write-changelog is a command for coding agents from rohitg00/awesome-claude-code-toolkit. It costs 0 tokens per session (293 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A command that creates a user-facing changelog from the changes between two points in a Git project. A changelog is a dated record of what was added, changed, fixed, or removed.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to prepare a versioned CHANGELOG.md entry, identify breaking or security changes, group updates by type, link pull requests, and credit contributors.
Why use it?
It turns commit history and merged pull requests into organized release notes instead of requiring someone to summarize them manually.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00000 $0.00293
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00147
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00059
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00029

Measured 5d ago against content hash 5d1c7993989a, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

write-changelog scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

/write-changelog - Write Changelog

Generate a detailed changelog entry from git history and merged PRs.

Steps

  1. Determine the version range: from the last release tag to HEAD
  2. Fetch all commits in the range with their messages and authors
  3. Fetch merged pull requests in the range using the git hosting API
  4. Classify changes into categories: Added, Changed, Deprecated, Removed, Fixed, Security
  5. Parse conventional commit prefixes (feat, fix, chore, docs, refactor, perf, test)
  6. Extract breaking changes from commit messages and PR descriptions
  7. Group changes by category and sort by significance
  8. Write clear, user-facing descriptions for each change (not raw commit messages)
  9. Include PR numbers and links for traceability
  10. Credit contributors with their names or usernames
  11. Add the date and version number to the changelog entry
  12. Prepend the new entry to CHANGELOG.md following Keep a Changelog format

Rules

  • Follow the Keep a Changelog format (keepachangelog.com)
  • Write descriptions from the user's perspective, not the developer's
  • Highlight breaking changes prominently at the top of the entry
  • Do not include internal refactoring unless it affects the public API
  • Combine related commits into single changelog entries
  • Include migration instructions for breaking changes
  • Keep entries concise: one line per change with PR link
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
