kiro-rails: Command for Claude Code

.claude/commands/review-hardcoded-values.md

review-hardcoded-values is a command for Claude Code from sourjya/kiro-rails. It costs 29 tokens per session (2,496 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A code review that finds fixed values embedded in source code when they may belong in configuration or shared constants.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before releases, after large changes, during project onboarding, or after a bug involving a value that should have been configurable.
Why use it?
It reduces errors caused by changing URLs, identifiers, thresholds, messages, or environment-specific settings in many places by hand.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00029 $0.02496
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.01248
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00499
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00250

Security

Grade A, and why

review-hardcoded-values scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 290 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Hardcoded Value Scan

Run this prompt to detect embedded literals, magic values, and environment assumptions in a codebase. Produces a structured findings report with severity, verdict, and remediation - plus a scan manifest proving the scan actually ran.

Part of kiro-rails. This is a manual review prompt. For automated coverage, pair it with the pre-release-hardcode-check hook (see "Hook Pairing" below), which runs C1 + C5 on changed files without being asked.

When to Run

  • Before any release or version tag
  • After a feature branch lands that touches 10+ files
  • When onboarding a new or inherited project
  • Quarterly as a hygiene check
  • Reactively, after a bug is traced to a hardcoded value that should have been config

Scan Categories

C1 - Hardcoded Identifiers (CRITICAL if in prod code)

UUIDs, database IDs, org/tenant/profile identifiers that should be derived at runtime.

Pattern: [0-9a-f]{8}-[0-9a-f]{4}-[0-9a-f]{4}-[0-9a-f]{4}-[0-9a-f]{12}

Exclude (acceptable):

  • ID generation calls (not hardcoding) - see language appendix
  • Type declarations for ID columns - see language appendix
  • Dev fixtures and test factories
  • Migration revision IDs

Finding = violation if: An ID literal appears in business logic, service code, or endpoint code where it should be looked up from config or the database.

C2 - Hardcoded URLs and Domains (HIGH)

Localhost URLs, specific domains, and port numbers embedded where they should be config-driven.

Patterns:

  • localhost:\d+ or 127.0.0.1:\d+
  • Environment-specific domain patterns - adapt to your naming scheme, e.g. https?://[a-z-]+\.(dev|staging|prod)\.example\.(com|io)
  • Specific port numbers in logic (not config defaults)

Exclude (acceptable):

  • Settings/config files declaring defaults (e.g., database_url: str = "postgresql://...")
  • CLI tool defaults with an override path (env var or flag)
  • Test fixtures and assertions
  • Documentation and comments

Finding = violation if: A URL or port is used directly in service/route code instead of reading from config. Or: a test assumes a specific URL that should be derived from the test environment.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
