What is image-gen-install?

A setup command for installing the Imagen command-line tool and choosing Google’s image-generation models. It also checks available models and configures the Google API key.

Use it to install Imagen, set Nano Banana 2 as the default, check available models, and select Nano Banana Pro for cover images.

It removes the need to install the tool and set its default model by hand. It also makes clear which key and model settings are needed before generating images.

pip install -U gemini-imagen so imagen is on PATH.
Pin imagen config set default_model gemini-3.1-flash-image (Nano Banana 2).
Confirm GOOGLE_API_KEY or run imagen keys set google YOUR_KEY.
List models with python3 skills/image-gen/scripts/install_imagen.py --list-models.

Cover images still select Nano Banana Pro via --kind cover even after the CLI default is Flash.
