vector.collection.set_embedding_model

vector.collection.set_embedding_model is a command for Claude Code from stratalab/strata-core. It costs 0 tokens per session (212 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A setting for recording which embedding model produced the vectors in a vector collection. Embeddings are numeric representations of text used for similarity search.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to declare the model for a collection so text upserts and searches consistently use that model.
Why use it?
It prevents later text queries and inserts from using a different embedding model from the existing vectors. A mismatch is refused rather than silently mixing incompatible vectors.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00212

Security

Grade A, and why

vector.collection.set_embedding_model scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Records, once, which embedding model produces this collection's vectors. A declaration, not a verification: a stored vector carries no model, so this takes the caller's word for the vectors present; from then on text on upsert and query is embedded with this model and no other, and a collection with no recorded model cannot embed text at all. A vector supplied directly is not checked against the record — it cannot be — so supplying one remains the caller's statement that the recorded model produced it. Declaring the model a collection already records is a no-op and commits nothing. Declaring a different one is refused with failed_precondition.engine.embedding_model_mismatch: the stored vectors came from the recorded model, so create a separate collection for the other one. The current wire response uses the collection-list output with one item.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

vector.collection.set_embedding_model is a command published in the GitHub repository stratalab/strata-core (3 stars, last pushed 17d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 212 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-09.
