What is release-note-service?

A command for creating Service release notes, which announce new features, changes, and improvements in the Sumo Logic platform. It organizes notes by areas such as apps, data collection, management, search, and the user interface.

Use it to gather release details, generate a Markdown file with the expected metadata and structure, and check the result before publishing.

It removes repetitive setup and formatting work when preparing release announcements.

Create New Service Release Note

Automates the creation of Service release notes for new features, updates, and improvements across Sumo Logic platform categories.

What this command does

When you invoke release-note-service, Claude will guide you through:

Determine category. Apps, Manage, Collection, Search, or UI
Gather release details. Feature name, description, and changes
Create markdown file. Generate file with proper frontmatter and structure
Format content. Apply correct formatting for the feature announcement
Validate and preview. Check structure and provide next steps

Workflow

Step 1: Gather information

Ask one question at a time. Walk the user through each item with its own question (use AskUserQuestion with suggested options where possible). Do not post a numbered list of questions for the user to answer all at once.

Ask the user for:

Required:

Category: Which platform area (apps, collection, manage, search, ui)
Feature name: Brief, descriptive name of the feature or update
Release date: Date in YYYY-MM-DD format
Description: What the feature does and why it matters (2-3 sentences)

Optional:

Documentation link: Relative path to the doc (e.g., /docs/manage/...)
"What's new" details: Bulleted list of specific changes or capabilities
Keywords: Custom keywords for frontmatter (suggest defaults based on content)
