ask is a command for Claude Code from ThrownLemon/claude-code-plugins. It costs 28 tokens per session (287 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to sanity-check a technical choice, request another approach, or get an outside review of a tricky decision.
Why use it?
It gives you a second opinion when a design or implementation decision is difficult. The response is shown directly instead of being summarized.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00028 $0.00287
Opus 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00115
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00057
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00029

Measured 1mo ago against content hash 147c73fbbfc6, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ask scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Consult — Ask

Send a one-shot prompt to a third-party model and stream the answer back.

Use this when you want a second opinion that is not Claude — useful for:

  • Sanity-checking a design choice
  • Asking a different model family for an alternate approach
  • Bounce-off ideas that benefit from another perspective

Behavior

Run the consult script with the user's prompt:

node ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/consult.mjs ask \
  --provider ${ARGUMENTS.provider:-zai} \
  "${ARGUMENTS.prompt}"

Show the model's response verbatim. Do not paraphrase or summarize unless the user asks.

Provider keys

  • zai requires ZAI_API_KEY (or ZHIPU_API_KEY / GLM_API_KEY)
  • gemini requires GEMINI_API_KEY (or GOOGLE_API_KEY)

Run /consult:config to verify keys are configured.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
