reset

A command for setting the shared side-quest XP ledger to a chosen total. XP is experience-point progress, and the change applies to every machine connected through the shared MQTT sync.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to start the shared ledger over or set it to a specific number, including when the total must be changed across the whole sync pool.
Why use it?
It handles a reset that affects all synced machines, while showing the current and target totals and requiring confirmation before replacing the old value.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00000 $0.00412
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00206
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00082
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00041

Security

Grade B, and why

reset scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

.claude/, .codex/, .gemini/ hold keys, settings and other credentials a mod has no legitimate need for.

Check `~/.claude/settings.json` for whether the existing `xp.sh` hook commands are prefixed with `XP_MQTT_HOST=...` (MQTT sync configured). If so, use the same prefix; if not, omit it (local-only).

What it actually says

Reset the side-quest XP ledger to a specific total. Pool-wide and destructive — every machine on the shared MQTT sync adopts the new total.

1. Get the target total

$ARGUMENTS may already contain the target number. If not, ask the user what total to reset to (a plain question — this is the one number only they can decide). "Wipe" / "start over" means 0.

2. Confirm — always, no exceptions

Show the user, then get an explicit yes via AskUserQuestion:

  • Current total on this machine: run ~/.claude/side-quest/xp.sh status and quote total_xp / level.
  • Target total and what it does: "This bumps a shared epoch and publishes it, so every machine syncing on this pool adopts <target> — up or down — immediately if online, on reconnect otherwise. The old totals are not recoverable from the ledger."

If the user hasn't clearly asked for a reset in this turn, do not run it just because they invoked the command — confirm first.

3. Run it

Check ~/.claude/settings.json for whether the existing xp.sh hook commands are prefixed with XP_MQTT_HOST=... (MQTT sync configured). If so, use the same prefix; if not, omit it (local-only).

XP_MQTT_HOST=<broker-from-settings> ~/.claude/side-quest/xp.sh reset-ledger <target> --yes

Without --yes the command prints the warning and exits without changing anything — that's the dry run. --yes is required to actually reset.

4. Report

Relay the resulting {total_xp, level, epoch} JSON. Remind the user that other machines pick it up on their next sync — online ones within seconds, offline ones when their daemon reconnects.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

reset is a command published in the GitHub repository trtmn/agent-plugins (2 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed Unlicense. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 412 tokens. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (reads agent configuration directories). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
