A read-only command that reports the state of a project's skills, which are reusable instructions for coding tasks. It shows their maturity, links to other skills, pending updates, and unconnected skills.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to inspect the skill collection, check pending updates, find unused skills, or view details for one skill.
Why use it?
It gives maintainers a quick view of which instructions are healthy, outdated, or isolated.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00021 $0.00366
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00183
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00073
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00037

Measured 7d ago against content hash 54d654dc3297, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

skills scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

/skills

Visualize the current state of the skill ecosystem.

Usage

/skills — summary table
/skills --status — full detail including pending propagations
/skills --skill <name> — zoom on one skill

Steps

  1. Scan skills/*/SKILL.md and read each frontmatter block.
  2. Read skills/_synapse-map.md for connections and propagation state.
  3. Produce report.

Output format (default)

## Skill Map — YYYY-MM-DD

| Skill | Maturity | Tasks | Connections | Pending |
|-------|----------|-------|-------------|---------|
| flutter-patterns | mature | 5 | 3 | 0 |
| subscription-domain | growing | 2 | 4 | 2 ⚠️ |
| release-gate | seed | 0 | 1 | 0 |
| ...

**Orphans:** [skills with zero connections]
**Due for refactor:** [skills with pending_notes >= 5]
**Recent propagations:** last 5 from synapse map

Output format (--status)

Same table plus per-skill detail:

  • Last Synapse update date
  • Full connection list with type
  • Pending [SYNAPSE] notes (count + origins)
  • .history/ entries (count of backups)

Rules

  • Read-only — never modifies skills or the map.
  • If _synapse-map.md is missing: suggest /scaffold verification or Synapse map initialization.
  • Flag inconsistencies: skill exists on disk but not in the map, or vice versa.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

skills is a command published in the GitHub repository valsecchi75/project-scaffolder (9 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 21 tokens to every session and 366 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
