watch

watch is a command for Claude Code from xiyouMc/grok-hud. It costs 18 tokens per session (381 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Instructions for running grok-hud as a live display in another terminal pane or in a tmux status bar. It reads Grok session information while the session is running.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to watch one or all sessions, choose an update interval, or add a compact readout to tmux.
Why use it?
It keeps session usage visible without occupying the Grok terminal or blocking the current session.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00018 $0.00381
Opus 5 $0.00009 $0.00191
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00076
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00038

Measured 7d ago against content hash 458bc3752e38, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

watch scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

/grok-hud:watch

Grok cannot inject a statusline into its own TUI. Live HUD is an external process.

Arguments

$ARGUMENTS

What to do

  1. Ensure CLI is built (/grok-hud:setup if needed).

  2. Give the user a ready-to-paste command for a second terminal pane:

# Prefer linked binary
grok-hud --watch --cwd "$(pwd)"

# Or via plugin root
node "$GROK_PLUGIN_ROOT/bin/grok-hud.js" --watch --cwd "$(pwd)"

Optional:

grok-hud --watch --interval 2000 --all
  1. tmux one-liner for status bar:
set -g status-right '#(grok-hud --tmux --no-color) | %H:%M'
set -g status-interval 2
  1. Do not start a long-running watch that blocks this Grok session unless the user explicitly asks. Prefer printing the command.

  2. If the user explicitly wants you to start watch in the background for them, run:

# background, log to plugin data dir when available
LOG_DIR="${GROK_PLUGIN_DATA:-$HOME/.grok/plugins/grok-hud}"
mkdir -p "$LOG_DIR"
nohup grok-hud --watch --no-color >"$LOG_DIR/watch.log" 2>&1 &
echo "PID $! log: $LOG_DIR/watch.log"

Then tell them how to stop it (kill <pid>).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

watch is a command published in the GitHub repository xiyouMc/grok-hud (8 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 18 tokens to every session and 381 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
