Is PostToolUse safe to install?

Yes — PostToolUse is safe to install, with something worth knowing. Fable 5.1 read every file PostToolUse ships from Azure/azure-sdk-for-net on 7 September 2026 and found nothing that acts against the person installing it; the static scan of its 26 rules grades it A.

What the reviewer found

PostToolUse on every tool runs eng/common/scripts/azsdk_tool_telemetry.ps1, which on skill invocations launches the locally installed azsdk CLI with ingest-telemetry, sending client type, session id and skill name to Microsoft's Azure SDK telemetry, with no file contents or environment. The AZSDKTOOLS_COLLECT_TELEMETRY=false opt-out is ineffective because the script calls Write-Success before that function is defined and SilentlyContinue swallows the error, so execution falls through and still reports.

What the static scan said

The 26-rule scan found nothing in this file; the review read it anyway.

How this review was made

Fable 5.1 read the files above on 7 September 2026 and answered three questions: is it dangerous to whoever installs it, is each scanner finding real, and what should the installer know. The verdict is bound to the file's hash; when the file changes, it is scanned afresh and reviewed again. A script that changes while the definition does not is not re-reviewed — that is a known gap. How the scan and the review work.
