kitchenloop AGENTS.md

Development instructions for KitchenLoop, an automated improvement process for a codebase. It moves work through planning, idea review, implementation, cleanup, and regression testing, then can open a pull request.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when configuring or modifying KitchenLoop's shell orchestrator, prompts, libraries, worktree handling, testing gates, or automated improvement phases.
Why use it?
It documents the loop's phases, shared terms, files, and configuration so contributors can understand how automated changes are proposed and checked. A pull request is a reviewable set of code changes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.01113 $0.01113
Opus 5 $0.00557 $0.00557
Sonnet 5 $0.00223 $0.00223
Haiku 4.5 $0.00111 $0.00111

Measured 2d ago against content hash 32496e0ba157, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

kitchenloop AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 108 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

KitchenLoop

Autonomous improvement loop for any codebase, powered by Claude Code. Runs six phases in sequence: Backlog → Ideate → Triage → Execute → Polish → Regress. Each iteration picks work, implements it, tests it adversarially, and opens a PR — all without human intervention.

Key Concepts

  • Spec surface — the matrix of features x platforms x actions your product claims to support
  • Unbeatable tests — end-to-end verification against ground truth that the code author cannot fake
  • UAT gate — post-implementation adversarial testing by a fresh agent with zero context
  • Drain mode — auto-triggered when PR backpressure exceeds a configured threshold
  • Discussion Manager — multi-AI deliberation with anti-sycophancy safeguards

Architecture

scripts/kitchenloop/
kitchenloop.sh # Main orchestrator (~2000 lines bash). Runs phases via Claude Code subprocess.
  prompts/ # Phase prompts: ideate.md, execute.md, triage.md, polish.md, regress.md, backlog.md
                          # Uses template variables: {{REPO_ROOT}}, {{WORKTREE}}, {{BRANCH}}, etc.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
