codebeamer-mcp CLAUDE.md

codebeamer-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for coding agents from 3KniGHtcZ/codebeamer-mcp. It costs 732 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for a read-only MCP server that exposes Codebeamer application-lifecycle-management data to AI tools. Codebeamer is software for managing requirements, work items, and related development records.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to build, test, inspect, and understand the server's Codebeamer API connection and data tools.
Why use it?
It explains the server's commands, configuration, architecture, tests, and local mock setup so developers can work on it consistently.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00732 $0.00732
Opus 5 $0.00366 $0.00366
Sonnet 5 $0.00146 $0.00146
Haiku 4.5 $0.00073 $0.00073

Measured 4d ago against content hash 90c18868a3fc, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

codebeamer-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Commands

npm run build # compile TypeScript → dist/ (tsup, ESM)
npm run dev # watch mode build
npm run typecheck # type-check without emitting
npm test # run all tests once (vitest)
npm run test:watch # vitest in watch mode
npm run test:coverage # coverage report

# Run a single test file
npx vitest run tests/unit/tools/items.test.ts

# Interactive MCP testing (requires a running instance or mock server)
node mock-server.mjs # start mock API on port 3001
CB_URL=http://localhost:3001 CB_USERNAME=mock CB_PASSWORD=mock npm run inspect

Architecture

The server is a read-only MCP server that exposes Codebeamer ALM data to LLM clients via stdio transport.

src/
index.ts # entry point: wires McpServer + transport
  config.ts # reads CB_URL / CB_USERNAME / CB_PASSWORD from env
  client/
http-client.ts # thin fetch wrapper (Basic Auth, query params, error mapping)
codebeamer-client.ts # typed Codebeamer API methods + response types
errors.ts # maps HTTP status codes to McpError
formatters/ # convert API types → markdown strings for tool responses
tools/ # register MCP tools on the server (one file per domain)
    index.ts # re-exports all register* functions

Data flow: McpServerregister*Tools(server, client)CodebeamerClientHttpClient → Codebeamer REST API v3. Responses are formatted to markdown by the formatters before being returned as tool content.

Key implementation details

toArray<T>(response) in codebeamer-client.ts — normalises the inconsistent API response shapes:

  • plain T[]
  • { items: T[] } (query endpoint)
  • { itemRefs: T[] } (direct tracker items endpoint)
  • generic fallback: first array-valued key in the object

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
