vikunja-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

vikunja-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from 4nm1tsu/vikunja-mcp. It costs 2,215 tokens per session, scanned A, a copy of vikunja-mcp CLAUDE.md, MIT.

Repository instructions for developing a Vikunja task-management MCP server, including required checks, build commands, and individual test commands. TDD, or test-driven development, means using tests as part of the development process.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing Vikunja task tools, running focused tests, building the TypeScript project, or preparing a release.
Why use it?
They make the expected workflow explicit and require linting, type checking, tests, and coverage checks before changes are accepted.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02215 $0.02215
Opus 5 $0.01107 $0.01107
Sonnet 5 $0.00443 $0.00443
Haiku 4.5 $0.00221 $0.00221

Security

Grade A, and why

vikunja-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Architecture Overview

MCP Server Pattern

This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that exposes Vikunja task management operations as tools for AI assistants. The architecture follows a modular design with dependency injection:

  • Entry Point: src/index.ts - Initializes McpServer with stdio transport
  • Tool Registry: src/tools/index.ts - Centralized registration with conditional loading
  • Client Factory: src/client.ts - Session-aware Vikunja API client management
  • Auth Manager: Centralized authentication with JWT/API token auto-detection

Tool Design Pattern

Each Vikunja entity follows a consistent subcommand-based pattern:

server.tool('vikunja_tasks', {
  subcommand: z.enum(['create', 'get', 'update', 'delete', 'list']),
  // ... Zod validation schema
}, async (args) => {
  // Route to specific operation handlers
})

Critical Architecture Decisions (Post-Refactoring v0.2.0)

  1. Simplified Storage Architecture (90% Code Reduction)
    • Eliminated over-engineered 33-file storage system (9,803 lines)
    • Replaced with SimpleFilterStorage.ts (393 lines) for essential functionality
    • Thread-safe operations with AsyncMutex
    • Session-isolated storage with automatic cleanup
    • Located in src/storage/SimpleFilterStorage.ts

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
