dynatrace-dql-kb copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from aachtenberg/dynatrace-dql-kb. It costs 2,086 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of instructions for working with Dynatrace Query Language, the language used to search and analyse monitoring data in Dynatrace. It includes commands, metric names, rules, and examples of incorrect and correct queries.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when writing, checking, or explaining Dynatrace queries and when starting work in the related knowledge-base project.
Why use it?
It helps prevent invalid or misleading monitoring queries caused by unfamiliar syntax or metric names.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02086 $0.02086
Opus 5.5 $0.00834 $0.00834
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00417 $0.00417
Haiku 4.5 $0.00209 $0.00209

Measured 1mo ago against content hash 50658fa291ec, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

dynatrace-dql-kb copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Dynatrace Query Language (DQL) — Copilot Instructions

When generating DQL queries, follow these rules exactly. DQL is NOT SQL.

Starting Commands

Data type Command Example
Metrics (CPU, memory, disk, network, request counts) timeseries timeseries avg(dt.host.cpu.usage), by:{dt.entity.host}
Logs fetch logs fetch logs | filter status == "ERROR"
Events fetch events fetch events | filter event.type == "K8S_EVENT"
Business events fetch bizevents fetch bizevents | filter event.type == "com.example.purchase"
Spans/traces fetch spans fetch spans | filter span.kind == "server"
Problems (issues, incidents, alerts) fetch dt.davis.problems fetch dt.davis.problems, from:-7d | filter event.status == "ACTIVE"
Entities fetch dt.entity.* fetch dt.entity.host | fields id, entity.name
Metric discovery metrics metrics | filter contains(metric.key, "cpu")
Chart logs/events over time makeTimeseries (after fetch) fetch logs | makeTimeseries count(), interval:5m
Lookup tables load lookup [load dt.lookup.my_table], sourceField:key, lookupField:id
Schema/structure describe describe logs
Topology nodes smartscapeNodes smartscapeNodes HOST

Critical Rules

  1. Metrics use timeseries, NEVER fetch. timeseries avg(dt.host.cpu.usage), by:{dt.entity.host} — CORRECT fetch dt.host.cpu.usage — WRONG, WILL NOT WORK

  2. by: always uses curly braces. by:{host.name} — CORRECT by: host.name or by:(host.name) — WRONG

  3. Strings must be quoted in filters. filter status == "ERROR" — CORRECT filter status == ERROR — WRONG

  4. No SQL syntax. DQL is pipe-based. No SELECT, FROM, WHERE, GROUP BY, ORDER BY.

    • fields not SELECT
    • filter not WHERE
    • summarize ... by:{} not GROUP BY
    • sort not ORDER BY
  5. Time ranges differ by command.

    • timeseries: timeseries avg(dt.host.cpu.usage), from:-1h
    • fetch: fetch logs | filter timestamp >= now() - 1h

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
