dynatrace-dql-kb: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/instructions/dql.instructions.md

dynatrace-dql-kb dql.instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from aachtenberg/dynatrace-dql-kb. It costs 2,116 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of instructions for writing DQL queries, the language used to search and analyze data in Dynatrace monitoring software.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for creating DQL queries with starting commands, pipe commands, and data-fetching commands.
Why use it?
It helps an agent use the right query structure and command order, reducing invalid or misunderstood DQL queries.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02116 $0.02116
Opus 5.5 $0.00846 $0.00846
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00423 $0.00423
Haiku 4.5 $0.00212 $0.00212

Measured 1mo ago against content hash f77eb99dfe1e, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

dynatrace-dql-kb dql.instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

DQL Query Syntax Instructions

When writing or editing DQL queries, use ONLY the syntax documented here.

Query Structure

DQL queries are pipe-based. A starting command feeds into pipe commands:

<starting_command>
| <pipe_command>
| <pipe_command>
| ...

Starting Commands (no pipe before these)

  • fetch <source> — logs, events, bizevents, spans, dt.davis.problems (problems, a.k.a. issues or alerts), dt.entity.*, dt.system.data_objects
  • timeseries <aggregation>(metricKey) — metric time series data
  • metrics — list available metric keys
  • data record(...) — inline test data
  • load <resource> — load lookup table data
  • describe <source> — show schema
  • smartscapeNodes <type> — load topology nodes (smartscapeNodes HOST, smartscapeNodes "*")
  • smartscapeEdges <type> — load topology edges (smartscapeEdges calls, smartscapeEdges "*")

Pipe Commands

  • filter <condition> — keep matching records
  • filterOut <condition> — remove matching records
  • search "text" — case-insensitive text search (after fetch only)
  • fields <field1>, <field2> — keep only these fields (can create new computed fields)
  • fieldsAdd <name> = <expression> — add/replace a field
  • fieldsKeep <field1>, <field2> — keep existing fields only (won't create new ones)
  • fieldsRemove <field> — drop a field
  • fieldsRename <new> = <old> — rename a field
  • fieldsFlatten <record_field> — flatten nested record into columns
  • sort <field> asc|desc — sort records (default asc, place at end for performance)
  • limit <n> — cap result count (don't use before aggregation)
  • summarize <agg>(), by:{<field>} — group and aggregate
  • dedup <field> — deduplicate (keep first occurrence)
  • parse <field>, "<DPL_pattern>" — extract fields using Dynatrace Pattern Language
  • expand <array_field> — explode array into rows
  • lookup [<subquery>], sourceField:<f>, lookupField:<f> — enrich (first match only)
  • join [<subquery>], on:{<field>}, fields:{<field>} — join with subquery
  • append [<subquery>] — union results from subquery
  • joinNested [<subquery>], on:{<field>} — join as nested array of records
  • makeTimeseries <agg>(), interval:<duration> — chart non-metric data over time
  • fieldsSummary <field> — field cardinality stats

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
