mcp-server: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

mcp-server AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from Aayush9029/mcp-server. It costs 652 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A repository guidance file for coding agents working on a Python service. It documents the service's architecture, commands, tests, formatting, type checking, and local Valkey setup.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for guiding agents through development and verification tasks in this repository. It covers running the service, using the local or fake key-value store, running tests, and checking code quality.
Why use it?
It gives agents the project-specific information needed to inspect, test, and change the code without guessing how the repository works. It also records boundaries between REST, MCP, event-stream, service, and storage layers.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00652 $0.00652
Opus 5.5 $0.00261 $0.00261
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00130 $0.00130
Haiku 4.5 $0.00065 $0.00065

Security

Grade A, and why

mcp-server AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

This file gives guidance to coding agents (Claude Code, Codex) that work in this repository.

What this is

One Python service for the Relaydeck iOS app. AI agents reach it over MCP with an API key and report tasks. Apple devices reach it over REST and a server-sent event stream, and get pushes through APNs. The only database is a Redis-compatible Key Value store (Valkey).

Commands

uv sync
valkey-server --save "" & # local store
uv run mcp-client-server # http://localhost:8000

uv run pytest # uses the local store
TEST_STORE=fakeredis uv run pytest # no store necessary
uv run pytest tests/test_mcp.py -k discover # one test
uv run ruff check . && uv run ruff format --check .
uv run pyright

For a load test, start the server with RATE_LIMIT_PER_MINUTE=0 RATE_LIMIT_ACCOUNTS_PER_HOUR=0, then run the script in scripts/.

Architecture

  • Layers: surfaces (REST routes, MCP tools, event stream, pages), then services, then the store. A surface does not touch the store and does not call a different surface. REST and MCP call the same service functions.
  • Store: the only code that talks to Key Value. A write that touches more than one key is one Lua script. No request path uses KEYS or SCAN. The key schema is written at the top of the schema module.
  • Stateless processes: no session state in memory. Several workers serve the same account. Events go through pub/sub, and each process has one subscriber that fans out to its own streams.
  • MCP: the official mcp SDK, version 2, protocol revision 2026-07-28. It also serves the earlier initialize handshake. Do not write protocol messages by hand.
  • Push: sent after the response, not in the request path. One dispatcher decides who gets a visible, a silent, or a Live Activity push.
  • Credentials: mca_ account tokens and mck_ API keys. The server stores only their SHA-256 hashes and does not log them.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
