Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

Grade A, and why
Spawn CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 43 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Overview
Spawn (PyPI: spawnio, entry point spawn = spawn.cli.app:main) is a Typer/Rich CLI that scaffolds Python projects from intent-based templates (spawn create), scores project health (spawn doctor, spawn doctor --fix), inspects existing repositories read-only (spawn inspect), and optionally publishes to GitHub. Python 3.12+, managed with uv, built with hatchling. Version lives in pyproject.toml (spawn.__version__ reads it via importlib.metadata, with a hardcoded fallback in src/spawn/__init__.py that must be kept in sync).
Commands
uv sync --all-groups # install incl. dev group
uv run pytest # all tests
uv run pytest tests/test_app.py # one file
uv run pytest tests/test_app.py::test_name # one test
uv run pytest --cov=src/spawn --cov-report=term-missing
uv run ruff check . # lint (CI runs pytest + ruff check)
uv run ruff format . # format (required before PRs)
uv run spawn inspect . --json # run the read-only inspector on this repo
Architecture
Detailed reference: docs/architecture.md, docs/commands.md, CONTRIBUTING.md. Big picture:
- Create flow:
cli/app.py→ acore/models.ProjectConfigfrom either interactivecli/prompts.py(questionary, menus derived from the registry) orcli/noninteractive.py(flags /--configJSON, validated bycore/planning.py::plan_project) →generators/pipeline.py::generate_project, which dispatches toProjectGenerator(templates) orCustomStructureGenerator(template == "custom"). Both guard the destination viagenerators/destination.py(assert_available,safe_join), write folders/files/README/.gitignore, run git init and (unless--no-uv)uv init/uv venv/uv add/template.post_install(), thengenerators/metadata.py::write_project_metawrites.spawn/meta.json. On failure only a directory created by this run is removed (cleanup_created);OSErrorbecomesFilesystemError. - Template registry (
core/registry.py):TEMPLATESdict ofTemplateMetadatais the single source of truth for slugs, frameworks, extras, and prompt menus.instantiate_template(config)passesframework/extras/cli_typeetc. to a template's constructor only if its signature accepts them (signature introspection), so constructor parameter names matter. - Templates (
templates/<slug>/__init__.py+content.py): subclassBaseTemplate(templates/base.py);__init__.pyholds the class (dispatching on framework),content.pyholds all file contents as string constants plusmake_readme()/make_agents_md().templates/mcp_server/is the minimal example to copy. Shared README/gitignore/CI/tool-config strings are intemplates/shared_content.py; standalone file writers ingenerators/project_files.py. - Custom structure (
generators/custom_structure.py): parses pasted Tree/Markdown/Indented layouts and builds them without a template. - Doctor:
utils/doctor.pycomputes the 0–100 health score;utils/doctor_fix.pyplans/applies fixes (plan_fixes,apply_fixes) — it never overwrites existing files or installs packages. - GitHub publishing:
github/publisher.py(GitHubPublisher), errors derive fromPublishError. All errors derive fromSpawnError(core/exceptions.py), each class with its ownexit_code;cli/errors.py::failprints❌ messageand exits with it,report_unexpectedexits 10 (traceback withSPAWN_DEBUG=1). - Inspection (
spawn inspect [PATH] [--json] [-v],docs/inspection/):cli/app.py::inspect_command→inspection/orchestrator.py::run_inspection→discovery.validate_inspection_root/discover_repository(one scan) → analyzersLanguageDetector,FrameworkDetector,DependencyAnalyzer,ToolingAnalyzer(consume the inventory only) → aggregate by(category, subject)→InspectionReport→cli/inspect_render.pyorto_json. The report schema isSCHEMA_VERSIONininspection/models.py; behavior changes needdocs/inspection/updated. - Metadata:

What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

Spawn CLAUDE.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository Abhiix0/Spawn (25 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 1,313 tokens to every session, about $0.0053 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-10.
