AGENTS.md

cli-tools AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from adbertram/cli-tools. It costs 244 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for cli-tools, a source tree that provides documented command-line programs for outside services. It tells coding agents which project skills to read and where those skills are stored.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for guiding work on service-specific Python command-line tools and keeping their reusable instructions in the repository.
Why use it?
It prevents agents from using the wrong procedures or user-level instructions when creating, testing, running, or troubleshooting command-line tools.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00244 $0.00244
Opus 5.5 $0.00098 $0.00098
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00049 $0.00049
Haiku 4.5 $0.00024 $0.00024

Security

Grade A, and why

cli-tools AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

CLI Tools Agent Instructions

Project Purpose

cli-tools is the central source tree for service-specific Python CLIs built for AI agents and humans. It exists to expose external services through documented, JSON-first, testable command surfaces instead of ad hoc browser clicks or one-off scripts.

General Guidance

Use this directory as the project workspace for tasks that match the purpose above. Keep durable, project-specific instructions here and move reusable procedures into skills.

CLI Tool Skills

Always load and follow the repo-owned cli-tool skill before creating, updating, testing, listing, troubleshooting, or running any CLI tool in this checkout:

_repo/skills/cli-tool/SKILL.md

CLI-tool service skills live in this repository under _repo/skills.

When a task calls for a CLI-tool skill, load the matching skill from:

_repo/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.md

Do not load CLI-tool service skills from a user-level skill directory when this repository contains the matching _repo/skills/<skill-name> bundle. Treat _repo/skills as the source of truth for CLI-tool skill behavior in this checkout.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
