tracecat-mcp-community: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

tracecat-mcp-community CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from adrojis/tracecat-mcp-community. It costs 637 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Development instructions for a Tracecat MCP server, a program that lets an AI agent call Tracecat automation tools. They describe its TypeScript structure, login method, build commands, and environment settings.

In plain words
What is it for?
They help develop the server, configure its API URL and credentials, select a workspace, compile it, and run it in normal or watch mode.
Why use it?
They give developers the project-specific details needed to build and run the server and avoid API quirks such as required request formats.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00637 $0.00637
Opus 5 $0.00318 $0.00318
Sonnet 5 $0.00127 $0.00127
Haiku 4.5 $0.00064 $0.00064

Security

Grade A, and why

tracecat-mcp-community CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Tracecat MCP Server - Development Guide

Architecture

src/
├── index.ts # Entry point - starts StdioTransport immediately
├── server.ts # Creates McpServer and registers all tools
├── client.ts # HTTP client with lazy init (login on first call)
├── types.ts # TypeScript interfaces
└── tools/ # One file per domain (12 files, 52 tools)

Auth

  • Tracecat uses session cookies (fastapiusersauth), not API keys
  • Login via POST /auth/login (form-urlencoded)
  • Client uses lazy init: ensureInitialized() in request() — no login at startup

Build & Run

npm install
npm run build # tsc
node dist/index.js # run directly
npm run dev # watch mode with tsx

Environment Variables (.env)

Variable Required Default
TRACECAT_API_URL No http://localhost/api
TRACECAT_USERNAME Yes
TRACECAT_PASSWORD Yes
TRACECAT_WORKSPACE_ID No Auto-detected

API Quirks

  • workspace_id must be a query param, not a header
  • Action/Secret/Schedule updates use POST, not PATCH (but workflow update uses PATCH)
  • Action inputs must be a YAML string, not JSON
  • Actions list: GET /actions?workflow_id=... (not nested under workflows)
  • Graph operations use optimistic locking (base_version)
  • Empty responses (204/no body) are returned as { success: true } — handles delete operations gracefully

API Endpoints Reference

Key endpoints verified against OpenAPI spec:

Operation Endpoint Notes
Run workflow POST /workflow-executions Body: { workflow_id, inputs }
Run draft POST /workflow-executions/draft Same body, uses uncommitted version
Get webhook GET /workflows/{id}/webhook Returns URL, status, secret
Toggle webhook PATCH /workflows/{id}/webhook Body: { status: "online"/"offline" }
Search secrets GET /secrets/search Requires environment query param
Update secret POST /secrets/{id} Body: SecretUpdate schema
Schedule interval POST /schedules every uses ISO 8601 duration (PT5M), NOT 5m

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
