Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5 | $0.02377 | $0.02377 |
| Opus 5 | $0.01189 | $0.01189 |

Grade A, and why
arxivist CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 162 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
CLAUDE.md
This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.
What this repo is (read first)
arxivist is an AgentCulture mesh agent. Its stated domain (see pyproject.toml
and README.md):
Agent + CLI that fetches arXiv papers, maintains a knowledge base, implements paper solutions, and benchmarks them against the papers' claims.
That domain is not built yet. The code currently in arxivist/ is the
culture-agent-template scaffold — an agent-first introspection CLI (whoami,
learn, explain, overview, doctor, cli) and nothing arXiv-specific. The
runtime prose in README.md, arxivist/cli/_commands/learn.py, and
arxivist/explain/catalog.py still literally describes the package as "a clonable
template for AgentCulture mesh agents." When you build the real domain, you will be
replacing that template prose, not adding alongside it.
So there are two distinct kinds of work here, and they call for different mindsets:
- Extending the agent — adding arXiv fetch / knowledge-base / implement / benchmark functionality. This is greenfield: add new noun groups following the existing CLI pattern (below) and retire the template framing as you go.
- Maintaining the scaffold — CI, skill re-syncs, version bumps, identity. The conventions below are load-bearing and enforced in CI; keep them green.
Commands
This is a uv-managed, Python 3.12+ package. The runtime has zero third-party
dependencies (dependencies = [] in pyproject.toml) — keep it that way unless
the domain genuinely requires a dependency, because the empty-deps property is part
of the agent-first design. teken, pytest, lint tools, etc. are dev-only.
uv sync # install deps + the package (editable)
# Tests
uv run pytest -n auto # full suite, parallel (what CI runs)
uv run pytest "tests/test_cli.py::test_whoami_text" # a single test
uv run pytest -k whoami # tests matching a keyword
bash .claude/skills/run-tests/scripts/test.sh -p # same, via the run-tests skill
# The CLI itself (two equivalent entry points)
uv run arxivist <verb> [--json]
uv run python -m arxivist <verb>
# Lint (CI's `lint` job runs all of these; line length is 100 everywhere)
uv run black --check arxivist tests
uv run isort --check-only arxivist tests
uv run flake8 arxivist tests
uv run bandit -c pyproject.toml -r arxivist
markdownlint-cli2 "**/*.md" "#node_modules" "#.local" "#.claude/skills" "#.teken"
# The agent-first rubric gate (CI's hardest gate — see below)
uv run teken cli doctor . --strict
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

arxivist CLAUDE.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository agentculture/arxivist (2 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 2,377 tokens to every session, about $0.0119 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
