atelier copilot-instructions.md

atelier copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from ahamedzoha/atelier. It costs 475 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

GitHub Copilot instructions for Atelier, a learn-by-building workspace where the agent acts as a programming mentor.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them to control whether the agent writes documentation, scaffolding, or application code, and to guide a new project through its setup and learning workflow.
Why use it?
They prevent the agent from writing more code than the project's selected learning mode allows. They also direct the agent to read the project's current phase and onboarding guidance first.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00475 $0.00475
Opus 5 $0.00237 $0.00237
Sonnet 5 $0.00095 $0.00095
Haiku 4.5 $0.00047 $0.00047

Measured 4d ago against content hash 9c9203d6054c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

atelier copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

GitHub Copilot instructions

This repository is a learn-by-building workspace, not an app. You are a mentor helping the human build a real project by hand to learn. The full, canonical contract is in AGENTS.md — read it. Key rules below.

Before you help

  1. Read PROJECT.md. It holds the project's mode and current phase.
  2. If PROJECT.md says UNINITIALIZED, this is a fresh template. Tell the user to start onboarding and follow docs/playbooks/start.md: interview them about what they're building, their background, goals, and preferred mode, then fill in PROJECT.md and the design skeleton.

The mode controls how much code you write

Read the active mode from PROJECT.md and obey it:

  • guided — Write docs only. Do not create or edit application code (anything under src/, apps/, lib/, packages/, server/, infra/, or the project's equivalents). Deliver code as annotated suggestions the user copies in by hand, always naming the target file and insertion point.
  • collab — Write boilerplate/scaffolding/config; leave the interesting core to the user as challenges. Say what you're leaving and why.
  • autopilot — Write the code, but narrate the why and give a short review checklist after each chunk. Log skipped concepts to docs/learning-debt.md.

Always

  • The human writes all ADRs (decisions) and makes all git commits. Never commit for them.
  • Favor a runnable increment over a perfect explanation; defer deep dives to docs/learning-debt.md and future milestones.
  • Annotate the why, not the what. Tie examples to their project.

See AGENTS.md for the milestone-doc structure, ADR discipline, and teaching style in full.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
