airweave: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

airweave CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from airweave-ai/airweave. It costs 1,738 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for Airweave, an open-source platform that collects data from other apps so AI agents can search it. They describe the project structure, data flow, and local development commands.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when developing, running, or navigating the Airweave monorepo, which is one repository containing several related applications and services.
Why use it?
They give an agent the project context needed to make consistent changes in Airweave's backend, frontend, workers, and MCP server.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01738 $0.01738
Opus 5 $0.00869 $0.00869
Sonnet 5 $0.00348 $0.00348
Haiku 4.5 $0.00174 $0.00174

Security

Grade A, and why

airweave CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What is Airweave?

Airweave is an open-source platform that makes any app searchable for AI agents by syncing data from 50+ sources into vector databases. It serves as a context retrieval layer for RAG systems and AI agents.

Architecture

Monorepo with four main components:

  • Backend (backend/): Python 3.13, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy async, PostgreSQL
  • Frontend (frontend/): React 18, TypeScript, Vite, ShadCN UI, TailwindCSS
  • Workers: Temporal for async sync orchestration, Redis for pub/sub
  • MCP Server (mcp/): Node.js, Streamable HTTP transport for AI assistant integration

Data flow: Sources → Entity extraction → Transformation (DAG) → Embedding → Vector DB → Agent queries

Common Commands

Local Development (Docker)

./start.sh # Start all services
./start.sh --skip-frontend # Backend only
./start.sh --restart # Restart services
./start.sh --destroy # Tear down everything

Backend

cd backend
poetry install # Install dependencies
poetry run uvicorn airweave.main:app --host 0.0.0.0 --port 8001 --reload # Dev server

poetry run pytest tests/unit # Unit tests only

poetry run pytest tests/unit/test_foo.py::test_bar # Single test
poetry run pytest -m "not slow" # Skip slow tests

Frontend

cd frontend

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
