agmem: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

agmem AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from albedoweb/agmem. It costs 264 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Repository instructions for using agmem, a tool that searches a saved snapshot of project information. They explain how to query that snapshot, run checks, and refresh it after source changes.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when working on the agmem codebase, locating relevant files, running its Python checks, or updating its shared memory snapshot.
Why use it?
They reduce unnecessary code exploration while reminding you that saved information may be outdated and must be checked against current files and tests.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00264 $0.00264
Opus 5.5 $0.00106 $0.00106
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00053 $0.00053
Haiku 4.5 $0.00026 $0.00026

Security

Grade A, and why

agmem AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Working on agmem

Before broad exploration, query the project memory using concrete identifiers:

agmem context "indexer watch source_ref" -n 8

Use the result to locate code, then inspect the referenced files. The committed index is a snapshot, not proof that a claim is current. Current source files, tests, and applicable instructions take precedence over retrieved text. Search the source directly when memory is missing, stale, or insufficient.

Use one-shot queries by default: --session shares state between agents, and linked Git worktrees currently resolve their memory to the main checkout.

Development setup: uv sync. Checks: uv run pytest -q and uv run ruff check src/ tests/. Hybrid model tests are optional and may skip.

After changing indexed source files, refresh with a full agmem index, review the diff in .agmem/memories.jsonl, and include the updated snapshot when appropriate. Full indexing is currently needed to reliably remove obsolete Markdown sections. Keep runtime state and private notes out of the shared index. See shared index maintenance.

The Codex plugin and installation steps are in docs/codex-plugin.md.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
