claude-status-update: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

claude-status-update CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from AlexanderBZ/claude-status-update. It costs 465 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for a Claude Code status-reporting tool. The tool reads recent Claude Code session records, groups activity, classifies signals, and produces a stand-up summary.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to install dependencies, run tests and linting, develop the plugin locally, or run the status update that summarizes recent bugs, features, and other activity.
Why use it?
It turns scattered work from recent coding sessions into a short report, so developers do not have to review session files and summarize them manually.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00465 $0.00465
Opus 5 $0.00233 $0.00233
Sonnet 5 $0.00093 $0.00093
Haiku 4.5 $0.00047 $0.00047

Security

Grade A, and why

claude-status-update CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Architecture

Skill-based design: A single /status-update command triggers a Python CLI that extracts signals from Claude Code session traces, then hands off to Claude for classification and summarization.

Flow

/status-update
    → Python CLI parses ~/.claude/projects/[current-project]/*.jsonl
→ Extracts user messages + AskUserQuestion responses from last 24h
→ Groups signals by session → writes to $PWD/.status-update/signals.txt
→ Claude reads signals, classifies as bug/feature/other, writes exec summary
→ Standup-ready text output to stdout
    → Scratch file deleted

Key Design Decisions

  • Deterministic extraction in Python — no LLM involved in parsing session traces
  • Claude handles only summarization and classification — keeps output reliable
  • Scratch file is ephemeral — written to $PWD/.status-update/signals.txt, deleted after use
  • Scope is 24 hours, current project only

Plugin Structure

  • commands/ - Slash commands (setup, start, stop, status, config) as markdown files
  • hooks/hooks.json - Claude Code plugin hooks
  • scripts/setup.py - Bootstrap script that handles venv creation, dependency install, model download
  • .claude-plugin/plugin.json - Plugin metadata

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
