CLAUDE.md

shamela-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from alhoqbani/shamela-mcp. It costs 4,912 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions and reference notes for Shamela MCPB, a packaged search server for Maktabah al-Shamela, a digital Arabic library. They document its architecture, commands, platform support, and development rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when working on the Shamela search server, its Java helper, its MCP Bundle package, tests, smoke checks, benchmarks, or releases.
Why use it?
They give the coding agent the repository context needed to build, test, package, release, and troubleshoot the project consistently.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.04912 $0.04912
Opus 5 $0.02456 $0.02456
Sonnet 5 $0.00982 $0.00982
Haiku 4.5 $0.00491 $0.00491

Security

Grade A, and why

shamela-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

shamela-mcpb — Claude Code Context

This repo packages a Maktabah al-Shamela 4 search server as an .mcpb (MCP Bundle) for install into Claude Desktop. Architecture, IPC contract, citation format, and roadmap live in docs/.

Build commands

All scripts are Node-based (no PowerShell) so they run on Windows + macOS + Linux:

npm install # one time per checkout
npm run build # esbuild Node + javac Java helper
npm run build:lib # tsc → dist/lib (the importable library; also runs on npm install)
npm run test # unit + integration suite (vitest)
npm run smoke # exercise every tool against the local Shamela install
npm run benchmark # Mode 1 + Mode 2 workflow simulations
npm run pack # full chain: build:server + build:java + mcpb pack
npm run release # cut a release: pre-flight + pack + tag + GitHub Release
npm run release:dry # run all pre-flight checks, skip pack/tag/publish

build:java requires JDK 21+ (javac + jar). It searches PATH, then JAVA_HOME, then platform defaults: Eclipse Adoptium / Microsoft / Oracle / Corretto on Windows, /usr/libexec/java_home -v 21 on macOS, /usr/lib/jvm/* on Linux. Set JAVA_HOME explicitly if your JDK is in a non-standard location.

On macOS

Shamela installs to ~/Library/Application Support/Shamela — capital S, no 4, unlike the Windows shamela4. build:java finds it there without help.

It ships a JRE only (java, no javac), so the helper still needs a real JDK to compile:

brew install openjdk@21 # the temurin@21 cask needs sudo; this does not
cp ~/Library/Application\ Support/Shamela/app/lucene/2/AlKhalil-Analyzer-2.1.jar src/java/libs/
cp ~/Library/Application\ Support/Shamela/app/lucene/2/shamela-misc-1.0.0.jar src/java/libs/
npm run build:java && npm run test

No JAVA_HOME and no PATH export. openjdk@21 is keg-only — Homebrew does not symlink it, and /usr/libexec/java_home cannot see it — so build:java probes the Homebrew prefixes directly.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
