gocode: Instructions file for Kiro

.kiro/steering/code-quality.md

gocode code-quality.md is an instructions file for Kiro from AlleyBo55/gocode. It costs 942 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of code-quality and review instructions for a Go codebase, including error handling, concurrency, and interface design.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when implementing or reviewing Go changes, especially code that handles errors, runs concurrent work, or defines interfaces.
Why use it?
It gives contributors consistent standards for writing readable, correct code and for making errors easier to trace. It also reduces review disagreements about common Go patterns.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00942 $0.00942
Opus 5.5 $0.00377 $0.00377
Sonnet 5 $0.00188 $0.00188
Haiku 4.5 $0.00094 $0.00094

Security

Grade A, and why

gocode code-quality.md scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Not a fault in itself. Listed so you know the mod talks to something, and to what.

Code Quality & Review Standards — gocode

The Bar

Every change to this codebase should pass the "would a senior Go engineer at a top-tier company approve this in code review?" test. We optimize for:

  • Readability over cleverness. Code is read 10x more than it's written.
  • Correctness over speed-to-ship. Bugs in an agent that writes code are amplified.
  • Simplicity over abstraction. Don't add a layer unless it pays for itself 3x.

Error Handling

// GOOD: wrap with context, use %w for the chain
if err != nil {
    return fmt.Errorf("connecting to provider %s: %w", name, err)
}

// BAD: naked error return
if err != nil {
    return err
}

// BAD: string formatting without %w
if err != nil {
    return fmt.Errorf("failed: %v", err)
}
  • Every error should tell you WHERE it happened and WHY.
  • Use errors.Is for sentinel errors, errors.As for typed errors.
  • Never swallow errors silently. At minimum, log them.

Concurrency

// GOOD: bounded goroutines with context
ctx, cancel := context.WithTimeout(ctx, 12*time.Second)
defer cancel()

ch := make(chan result, len(sources))
for _, src := range sources {
    go func(s source) {
        ch <- s.fetch(ctx)
    }(src)
}

// GOOD: select with context cancellation
select {
case r := <-ch:
    // handle
case <-ctx.Done():
    return ctx.Err()
}
  • Always pass context.Context as the first parameter.
  • Always respect context cancellation in loops and goroutines.
  • Buffered channels prevent goroutine leaks. Size them to the number of producers.
  • Use sync.WaitGroup when you need to wait for all goroutines, channels when you need results.

Interface Design

// GOOD: small, focused interface
type Provider interface {
    SendMessage(ctx context.Context, req MessageRequest) (*MessageResponse, error)
    StreamMessage(ctx context.Context, req MessageRequest) (<-chan StreamEvent, error)
}

// BAD: kitchen-sink interface
type Provider interface {
    SendMessage(...)
    StreamMessage(...)
    ListModels(...)
    GetUsage(...)
    SetConfig(...)
    Validate(...)
}

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
