clean-code-skills: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

clean-code-skills AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from Amartuvshins0404/clean-code-skills. It costs 425 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for AI coding agents that require clean-code practices, local-context checks, small changes, clear names, explicit failures, and appropriate tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them to guide non-trivial coding, editing, review, testing, and refactoring work across a project.
Why use it?
They set consistent expectations for how an agent should inspect and modify a codebase, reducing unnecessary complexity and hidden behavior changes.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions AGENTS.md; mentions Cursor.

This is Amartuvshins0404/clean-code-skills's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on clean-code-skills itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything clean-code-skills configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00425 $0.00425
Opus 5 $0.00212 $0.00212
Sonnet 5 $0.00085 $0.00085
Haiku 4.5 $0.00042 $0.00042

Measured 6d ago against content hash 7118115fa5c2, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

clean-code-skills AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Use The Clean-Code Skill

Load and apply the clean-code skill before non-trivial code writing, editing, review, testing, or refactoring. Depending on the install target, the skill may live at skills/clean-code/SKILL.md, .github/skills/clean-code/SKILL.md, or in the agent's global skill registry as clean-code.

For decisions about complexity, change, scale, optimization, or interface design, also consult skills/clean-code/references/canon.md. It distills cross-canon principles from primary sources (papers, books, and large-scale industry experience) with attribution.

Required Agent Behavior

  • Surface assumptions before implementation when they affect behavior, architecture, data, tests, security, or user-visible outcomes.
  • Read local conventions before editing. Existing idioms beat generic advice.
  • Keep changes minimal and directly traceable to the request.
  • Prefer simple, boring code until requirements prove complexity is needed.
  • Use names, structure, and tests to communicate intent.
  • Make failure modes explicit. Do not swallow errors or invent silent fallbacks.
  • Verify the claim you plan to make. Evidence comes before completion language.
  • Distinguish essential from accidental complexity; only the second is yours to fix in passing.
  • Treat every observable behavior of a multi-user interface as part of the contract.

Repository Development

When changing this repository:

  • Keep root instruction files, Cursor rules, Copilot instructions, and the skill aligned.
  • Do not copy proprietary or copyrighted source text into this repo.
  • Keep skills/clean-code/SKILL.md under the Agent Skills spec: front matter with name and description, followed by markdown instructions.
  • Run bash scripts/validate.sh before reporting completion.

Review Bias

Prefer findings about behavior, maintainability, testing gaps, security, failure handling, and unnecessary complexity. Do not spend review energy on style issues that automation or local formatters already enforce.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
