What is ai4science-studio CLAUDE.md?

A set of instructions for AI4Science Studio, a collection of recipes for running open artificial-intelligence models used in scientific work. The repository mainly contains Markdown, YAML configuration files, scripts, and notebooks rather than a compiled application.

This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.

Repository purpose

AI4Science Studio is an agent-first recipe collection for open AI-for-science models. The primary interface is an AI coding agent (Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) that reads machine-readable metadata to discover, configure, and run models. Upstream code lives in external GitHub repos; upstream model weights live on Hugging Face.

Canonical agent instructions: AGENTS.md. This file is the Claude Code pointer into that contract.

AGENTS.md — cross-tool conventions, validation commands, layout.
models.yaml (repo root) — generated index of all models. Do not edit by hand; change the per-model manifest and run make fix.
<model>/model.yaml — source of truth (HF id, license, recipes, env vars, hardware).
.cursor/skills/ — agent skills for Cursor; .claude/commands/ — slash commands for Claude Code.
make check — schema, index drift, script/docs lint, preflight_*.py --dry-run. Importable as ai4s_validate (PYTHONPATH=tools).

Model slug rule

Hugging Face id org/model → directory name org__model (replace / with __). Some models use a public name on disk instead; in that case, document the canonical HF id in the model's README.md. Example: earth_science/models/ORBIT-2/ maps to HF id jychoi-hpc/ORBIT-2.
