AGENTS.md

personal-os-setup AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from AmineDjeghri/personal-os-setup. It costs 1,883 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for a cross-platform Textual app that detects operating systems, lists packages, and performs system actions. They also define safety checks, commands, tests, and GitHub rules for agents working in the repository.

In plain words
What is it for?
They guide agents when editing the app, running tests, installing or changing system software, using the TUI, and working with Git and GitHub.
Why use it?
They reduce the risk of unwanted system changes, unsafe commands, broken conventions, and unapproved pushes or pull requests.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01883 $0.01883
Opus 5.5 $0.00753 $0.00753
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00377 $0.00377
Haiku 4.5 $0.00188 $0.00188

Security

Grade A, and why

personal-os-setup AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

Canonical working rules for ALL AI agents in this repository (Claude Code, Hermes, Codex, ...). CLAUDE.md imports this file and adds Claude-specific depth — don't duplicate rules here and there.

What this is

  • personal-os-setup: cross-platform Textual TUI app — OS/distro detection → package catalog → manager backends → system actions. Code in src/personal_os_setup/.
  • docs/: documentation hub published via properdocs/mkdocs.
  • src/awesome_os/ is dead — ignore it.

Safety: confirm before system-mutating actions (MANDATORY)

  • Package installs/upgrades/removals, chezmoi apply, shell changes, driver/VM/WSL setup, sudo steps: explicit, per-action user approval before running. A prior "yes" is not standing approval.
  • Destructive: make vm-clean, make deploy-doc-gh (pushes gh-pages). Never bypass the TUI's confirm dialogs (SystemAction.confirm=False).
  • Git: NEVER run git commit or git push without the user's explicit approval. Both are approved per action, every single time. A task description, a plan, "do the work", a previous approval, or an earlier push on the same branch is NOT permission. Ask, wait for the yes, then run exactly the action that was approved. The same applies to --force, PR creation/merge and release-branch actions. If an approval prompt times out, STOP — silence is not consent; say "prompt me again" is the user's call, not yours.

Commands

Command Purpose
make test unit tests (uv run pytest tests/unit; exit 5 = success)
make pre-commit ruff, detect-secrets, commitizen, yaml/json/toml, uv-lock — CI runs this exact command
make install-dev full dev env (use this, not uv pip install -e .)
make lint / make format ruff directly
make test-integration never locally (CI-only; installs real packages)

Run make test + make pre-commit before any PR — local pass == CI pass.

Conventions

  • Branch: from main (the dev branch is retired). feature/<name> / bugfix/<name>.
  • Commits: Conventional Commits, gitmoji optional. feat→minor · fix/perf→patch · feat!/BREAKING CHANGE:→major · others→no release. Never bump pyproject.toml; never create tags — semantic-release does it. commitizen validates only at git commit (commit-msg hook), not in make pre-commit.
  • PRs: target main, squash-merge, title must be conventional (= the release commit message).
  • Secrets: inline # pragma: allowlist secret, never whole-file excludes.
  • Renovate: 7-day cooldown on dependency PRs; uv.lock regenerated, not pinned.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
