nocodb-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

nocodb-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from andrewlwn77/nocodb-mcp. It costs 615 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Development instructions for an MCP server, a program that gives AI tools a standard interface to NocoDB, a database application. They describe its commands, code structure, and modules for databases, tables, records, queries, views, and attachments.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when developing or maintaining the NocoDB server, running its build and lint checks, adding database-operation tools, working with records or attachments, or understanding its API client.
Why use it?
They give contributors a shared reference for building, checking, formatting, testing, and running the server. This reduces uncertainty about where NocoDB operations belong and how API calls are organized.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00615 $0.00615
Opus 5 $0.00308 $0.00308
Sonnet 5 $0.00123 $0.00123
Haiku 4.5 $0.00061 $0.00061

Security

Grade A, and why

nocodb-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Development Commands

  • Build: npm run build - Compiles TypeScript to JavaScript in dist/
  • Development: npm run dev - Runs server with hot-reloading using tsx
  • Lint: npm run lint - Run ESLint on TypeScript files
  • Format: npm run format - Format code with Prettier
  • Start: npm start - Run compiled server from dist/index.js
  • Test: npm test - Run Jest tests (no tests exist yet)

Architecture Overview

This is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that provides a standardized interface to NocoDB. The architecture follows these patterns:

  1. Tool-Based Organization: Each category of NocoDB operations is organized into separate tool modules in src/tools/:

    • database.ts - Base/database operations
    • table.ts - Table management
    • record.ts - CRUD operations
    • query.ts - Query and aggregation
    • view.ts - View management
    • attachment.ts - File upload/attachment
  2. Client Abstraction: The NocoDBClient class in src/nocodb-api.ts encapsulates all API interactions. Key features:

    • Dynamic table name to ID resolution
    • Support for both API tokens and auth tokens
    • Consistent error handling with NocoDBError
    • Client-side aggregation/grouping operations
  3. MCP Server Setup: The main entry point src/index.ts sets up the MCP server using stdio transport and registers all tools from the tool modules.

  4. Type Safety: All data structures are defined in src/types.ts with comprehensive TypeScript interfaces.

Key Implementation Notes

  • Table ID Resolution: NocoDB API requires table IDs, but the client automatically resolves table names to IDs
  • Client-Side Operations: Aggregation and grouping are implemented client-side for compatibility
  • File Uploads: Supports both local file paths and URLs through FormData
  • Environment Configuration: Requires NOCODB_BASE_URL and either NOCODB_API_TOKEN or NOCODB_AUTH_TOKEN

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
